Why is considered so bad drawing for others than yourself?

I read tons of arguments telling that the people who draw for others are not real artists or something like that (supposedly because drawing is about feelings and express yourself). As an attempt of person who wants to be considered as an artist someday, I’ll say, even if my opinion makes you hate me or think different about me, that I draw for others.

Yes, you read right. I draw for others, because when I think my work is awful, I think my work is not good, I draw for the people who like them, because thanks to those people, I can keep drawing. I draw because I like to draw, it makes me happy, it makes me get rid of the stress and the feeling of being a good for nothing, but is not me who will pay the bills just because I feel better after drawing, is the others (I’m talking about future here).

This doesn’t mean that I’ll draw fanart of every new popular fandom or that I’ll draw what you like instead of what I like, no, don’t get the wrong idea. I draw because I love it, and I love the most when others love it as well, but if I don’t like something, I just won’t draw it. I draw for me, I draw for those who like my artwork because without them I wouldn’t be able to keep drawing without thinking “I’m gonna starve to death”.

Of course I draw to express myself, of course I draw to show off my feelings about something, but if I don’t care about the rest, how am I supposed to live in this world? What kind of human am I without feeling great about compliments about someone telling me that my work “made his/her day”? What am I doing posting my work online if I don’t need/care/want about what others think about my work? How the hell am I going to publish an online comic if I don’t care about others opinions?

I applaud those who don’t need anyone by their side because they are strong enough to grow up by themselves, but I’m a simple person who likes to enjoy a simple way of living and sharing what I do helps me to do a better job, doing a better job makes me happy, doing a better job would make the ones who see it happy!

Of course I draw for others, I draw for everyone who likes what I do (and that includes me sometimes), and I’m incredibly thankful for taking your time to look at my stuff! The thing is that I draw what I like, hoping that you will like it so you can keep enjoying what I draw (because I won’t stop drawing just because people won’t like it).
